As Martin and Sue prepare to move to Herefordshire, we have been marking his well-earned retirement in many ways, starting with all his friends in the village attending the Palm Sunday service at St Mary’s, after which Martin was presented with a cheque from Oxhill church, and a glitzy bottle of champagne and cheque from his supporters in Tysoe.  Afterwards Martin warmly thanked everyone and a card was signed, a lovely cake was produced by Chris Locke and a glass of wine and nibbles completed the occasion.  Thanks go to all those who brought along plates of delicious nibbles.  Martin has had a busy Holy week, leading up to his last Holy Communion service on Easter Sunday, when a packed church came to say its sincere thanks and farewell to him as he starts his new adventure.

The five Lent Lunches were all well supported and raised the following donations which have been sent to the chosen charities.  Chris Locke and Jenny Tongue - £155 for Practical Action;  Jackie Thompson - £180 for DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal; Jill Longbottom - £170 for Air Ambulance; Jennie Rake - £115 for DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal;  Tom & Emma Moffatt - £147 for the Mothers’ Union Overseas Fund (Sudan Appeal).  Thank you to all the hostesses and their helpers, and of course those who came along.

The Churchyard maintenance team were delighted when a number of helpers turned up to give a hand now that spring has arrived.  They had responded to the advertisement in last month’s Record, so this was seen as “good news” but they would be even happier if some younger helpers came along from time to time to lighten the load!   Don’t forget, the team meets on the second Tuesday of the month from 2 to 4pm and we are most grateful for all they do.

On Saturday morning 6th May we will be having our usual Spring Clean of St Mary’s starting at 9.30am to 12 noon and would be overjoyed to see anyone with a duster and polish, even if they can only pop in for half an hour.  Coffee and tea will keep us going !

ST MARY’S CHURCH FETE   With an unusually large number of events already planned for the month of June in the village, the Church Fete will be held on a Saturday afternoon in early July this year – look out for further details on posters around Tysoe.  At the end of June, we shall be welcoming the Revd George Heighton to become Priest in charge of the five churches in the benefice – Brailes, Sutton under Brailes, Tysoe, Oxhill and Whatcote, and we are delighted that he and his wife Drina will be coming to live at the Vicarage in Tysoe.  It also gives them a perfect opportunity to come along to our Church Fete in July and meet everyone.
