November and December have swiftly arrived and we have all begun to make plans leading up to Christmas. Tysoe W.I. will be staging a Festival of Remembrance in St Mary’s from 6th to 19th November, marking the anniversary of the end of WW1 by decorating the church with a wide variety of handmade poppies and serving tea/coffee and cakes on Saturday 10th November between 11am–3pm
All proceeds will go the the Royal British Legion. There will also be a display of photos and information relating to Tysoe and its servicemen who served during the war, so do call in.
We enjoyed a visit from the Friends of St Marks in Bilton – George’s previous parish – when he and Drina were greeted very warmly again. We served refreshments after which the choir led us in a lovely Choral Evensong.
For some years now, when there were five Sundays in the month we always enjoyed a United Holy Communion service somewhere in the three churches benefice. Now we are joined in the five churches benefice, it prompted us to travel to the church of Saint Thomas a Becket at Sutton-under-Brailes recently and a number of us who had never been there before enjoyed a warm welcome from the regulars at their beautiful church. Note that at the end of December it will be Oxhill’s turn to draw us together.
We send best wishes for a speedy recovery to all those who have been in hospital and we would also like to send our sincere condolences to the family of Brian Batchelor who died recently and, as we go to press, the family of Mary Baker. We remember Mary as one of the original members of the benefice choir and with her husband Chris did so much for the village of Tysoe.
The church services in St Mary’s during Christmas are detailed below.
We would like to invite you to join us in an Advent Windows Project this year! Start thinking about how you could decorate a
window in your house with lights and any Christmassy theme. We
will then arrange a ‘countdown to Christmas’ switch on and a
numbered trail for children to follow. The final ‘window’ on
24th December will be in church. Look out for details around the village, and on the village Facebook page.
