Some of you may have noticed that the flag at the top of the church tower has not been flown recently, this was due to a broken section at the top of the flagstaff. It was proving difficult to replace and a quote was obtained reluctantly for a brand new flagpole – very expensive! – but fortunately a top piece was found and we hope it will be fitted in time for the Royal Wedding. Perhaps two new flags could be replaced as well. Thanks go to the gallant few who turned up to spring clean the church and dusted down the cobwebs from the windows and generally made the woodwork gleam – we were most grateful to all who came. As usual the month of June offers a wide variety of village events, with Tysoe Open Gardens during the first weekend of this month when visitors seem to enjoy returning year by year to see how newly formed gardens are progressing. It is good to chat with the gardeners too and compare notes.
On June 16th St Mary’s Church Fete will be held from 2pm in the churchyard with the usual stalls and the schoolchildren dancing around the maypole. Any donations would be gratefully received for the children’s tombola to Annette or Becky, new bottles of wine to Jenny Tongue, raffle prizes to Chris Locke, cakes to Liz Percival, tombola prizes to Jill Longbottom, or Irene Haines at 4 Welchman Place, and bric a brac to Beverley Cressman. We shall be serving refreshments, lots of games for the children to do and we look forward to seeing you on the day.
Friday evening 22nd June at 7.30pm “Amici” the Coventry Cathedral Choir are coming to St Mary’s to give a concert of Reflective and Inspiring Choral Music with readings, giving us a rare opportunity to enjoy a warm summer evening’s entertainment. Pimms, strawberries and cream will be included in the ticket and served in the interval. Do come along to support the choir. Look out for posters.
It was suggested by friends of Christine Chapman that a rose should be planted in the churchyard in her memory with the name of “Remember Me” and this was recently completed and we are keen to see the colour when it blooms which is supposed to be a pale copper.
We are sorry to hear the sad news about the death of Jon Beeny who with Ann ran the marionettes and gave performances in aid of various charities. He will be much missed and we send our sincere condolences to Ann, and include all those who have lost loved ones.

Churchyard maintenance team – The team meet at 2pm - 4pm on the second Tuesday of the month. There are plans this year to make a special effort to tidy up the look of the churchyard, so join in and give the team a hand and have a cup of tea and biscuits as well. An enthusiastic group of five made a huge effort recently and have already cleared the ivy from some headstones and it is rewarding to see what can be done by a small group.
